Ethereum developers have called on the community to help test the long-awaited merger between the core Ethereum network and the proof-of-stake (PoS) based Beacon Chain.
The merger is a major milestone in the transition to Ethereum 2.0, as it will make the Ethereum network a PoS blockchain, reducing its power consumption by 99%.
On Monday, Ethereum developer Marius van der Wijden announced a new program to engage the community in testing the merger, which is designed for three levels: non-technical users, developers with limited blockchain experience and highly technical and experienced blockchain developers.
For non-technical users, the program provides for independent tasks such as setting up consensus level clients, reporting failures, and sending transactions.
Technical users can choose tasks such as running their own validators, testing and deploying contracts, and creating their own test networks, while highly technical users can learn specifications, propose invalid blocks, and partition the network by voting on invalid blocks.
The program encourages all participants to document as much of their work as possible and share it online under the hashtag #TestingTheMerge on Twitter. Wijden also pointed the community to the Ethereum R&D Discord channel to keep in touch throughout the testing program.
