**ADX Indicator Overview:**
The main aim of the ADX indicator is to measure the strength of a trend. It does not show whether the trend is going up or down — it only indicates how strong or weak the trend is. When the ADX value goes above 25, it means the trend is strong and not likely to fade soon. If it is below 25, the trend is weak, or the market is consolidating, so it is better to avoid trading during such periods. ADX values above 30 indicate a very strong trend — this is usually the best time to enter trades. However, when the ADX rises above 35 and stays above either +DI or -DI, it can signal a possible reversal, so traders should be cautious and confirm with another indicator.
**Purpose of the Moving Average (MA):**
In this strategy, the Moving Average is used along with the ADX to determine the trend direction. Since ADX only measures the strength of the trend and not its direction, the Moving Average helps identify whether the market is in an uptrend or a downtrend. The crossover of the candlestick over the MA serves as an entry signal.
**Initial Conditions of the ADX + Moving Average Test:**
Timeframe: 15 minutes and above (tested on 30 minutes).
Currency Pair: Any.
Indicators: ADX (default settings), 14-period EMA.
**Step-by-Step ADX + EMA Trading Rules:**
**Buy Rules:**
The ADX line should cross above the 25 level to confirm a strong trend. A bullish candlestick must close above the 14 EMA. Then, place a pending buy stop order 1–2 pips above the high of that candlestick. The stop loss should be set 2–5 pips below the low of that candlestick. Take profit should be three times larger than the stop loss or placed at the nearest swing high.
**Sell Rules:**
The ADX line should cross above the 25 level to confirm a strong trend. A bearish candlestick must close below the 14 EMA. Then, place a pending sell stop order 1–2 pips below the low of that candlestick. The stop loss should be set 2–5 pips above the high of that candlestick. Take profit should be three times larger than the stop loss or placed at the nearest swing low.
